While the book has stood up well to the test of time, the Editors and authors have taken this opportunity to include some recent changes:
Fracture healing has been thoroughly updated to include the current advances in basic science research The concept of minimally invasive strategies (MIS), relatively new when this book was first printed but mow an established approach in certain situations, has been changed to reflect some refinements in technique and changes in emphasis that have edged their way into current practice.
Parts 1 and 2 provide a comprehensive background to fracture management, covering basic sciences and the principles to be applied later in the manual, as well as a sobering review of the history of fracture treatment. Part 3 describes the management of specific fractures by region. Operative Techniques at the end of each chapter describe a particular procedure as applied to that region, e.g. bone plating, or the management of specific fractures, e.g. humeral condylar fracture. The design of these pages and the specially commissioned illustrations have become a signal feature of BSAVA surgical manuals.
