The Bella Moss Foundation, in partnership with Janssen Animal Health, is delighted to announce that, by popular request, four more MRSA events are planned for 2008. For more information, please contact Janssen Animal Health on 01494 567555.
These events are planned in:
Newcastle on Tuesday 13th May 2008, speaker Tim Nuttall Senior lecturer in Dermatology Liverpool) Human Health speaker Dr Giles Edwards Scottish MRSA Reference Laboratory
Manchester on Wednesday 14th May, speaker Tim Nuttall Human Health speaker Dr Giles Edwards Scottish MRSA reference Lab
20th May Amanda Boag is presenting the MRSA lectures in Warwickshire - venue to be announced.
East London speaker Professor David Lloyd (RVC) 9th May. Human Health Speaker Professor Mark Enright Imperial College, London (Professor of molecular epidemiology)
The day will follow a similar structure to the 2007 events:
Firstly an MRSA expert from the human field will give us an introduction to the growing problem in the human population and the impact this has to veterinary surgeons and nurses.Secondly a recognised veterinary MRSA expert will then take us through the very latest research and statistics into the problem in animals, investigate some clinical cases and finally present some ideas and solutions to help clinics avoid the problem for the future.
Finally a microbiologist from one of the U.K.’s leading laboratories into MRSA in pets will discuss when to swab for MRSA, the best way to send in a sample and how to interpret the results.
Following the surge of media coverage about MRSA and the link between human and pet MRSA, these events aim to educate the whole practice team about the disease, infection control and provide some solutions for the future.
Adverts will be placed into the veterinary media informing clinic teams about these events and invites will be sent out in April.
As this event is run through a registered charity, there is a charge of £100 per delegate – offers are available if clinics wish to send 3 or more members of the team. Any monies raised over and above the cost of putting on the event will go towards future CPD programmes and the education of vets and nurses about MRSA and other ‘superbugs’.
