Approach to diagnosis and management
Date: Thursday 29 January 2009
Speaker: Craig Devine
Venue: Day meeting at the Holiday Inn, Gatwick
Sponors: Intervet and Meriel
Animal’s airways are continuously exposed to a number of potentially noxious airborne agents and their respiratory tracts have adapted to this onslaught by developing a range of mechanical and immunological defence mechanisms. Failure of these defences leads to invasion by pathogenic microbes whilst exaggerated or misdirected immunological responses can result in immunologically mediated disease. This program of lectures will review some of the clinically significant aspects of these immunological mechanisms and then discuss how failure of these defences results in some of the more commonly seen nasal and bronchopulmonary diseases of dogs and cats. Recent advances in the diagnosis and management of these conditions will be presented using clinical case material for illustration. The aim will be to present a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of these disorders whilst including a little science for those who have a deeper interest in respiratory medicine.
